Precision, Musicality & Expression workshops with Rafi'ah
Saturday, May 31, 2008-The Cedars Jazz Club
3125 Sinton Road, Colorado Springs, CO
$25 per workshop or $40 for both workshops.
In this fun, hands on learning experience, a variety of exercises, drills and movement sequences will be used. Students will learn to listen, feel and deepen musical expression of Middle Eastern melodies and percussion. Emphasis will be placed on adding texture and learning where to put what, while making all movements graceful through awareness of posture and body lines from head to toe. Both workshops are useful for all dance styles (cabaret, tribal or fusion) and all levels, beginner to professional.
Slow Moves: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Tap into the liquid sensuality that Rafi’ah is known for! Learn slow moves with mesmerizing arms, undulating torsos and dramatic accents.
Find the
core muscles that create a fluid, slithery quality and where to put these types of movements.They not only look magical, but feel good as well.
Percussive Moves: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Percussive, fiery moves with a focus on timing, phrasing, changes and nuances in the music.
Add excitement and layering with innovative locks,
pops, shimmies, pauses, poses and occasionalslithers while maintaining poise and control
Evening Performance with Rafi’ah and Student Night Hafla
7:00 pm, $5 donation requested at the door.
After the workshops, come see Rafi’ah in action, along with other dancers from the local area! A limited number of performance slots are available but must be reserved in advance; please contact Rya at (719)213-2872 or rya@zalzalibellydance.com to request a slot.
Be sure to join us for open dancing after the show!
