I saw a Compton performance at elevation and was impressed. I was wondering if anyone taught his style to men in the Denver area?

Re: John Compton
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 4:20 PMI've also taken a lot of classes with Amina in Boulder, and even though most classes are just going over true "raqs sharqi" she also knows Egyptian folkloric really really well. Her classes are in Boulder on Wednsdays, so if you really want to be hardcore about it you could take both and the times wouldn't conflict. Or, what I would recomend is doing a couple of privates with Amina because her price is pretty reasonable and then you could get what you are after specifically.
Have fun with Eva, she is a really nice lady and REALLY knows her stuff!!

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 7:47 PMTell Eva what you are interested in. Rafi'ah is teaching for her for a bit...but she would be a great one for folkloric. Wonderful teacher and lady...you will enjoy her.

Re: John Compton
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 9:06 PMI just signed up for Eva's basic class through Colorado Free University. It starts on May 6. I am getting excited and a wee bit nervous. So few men dance in this community, and I am a bit shy on top of that, I find it a bit intimidating. I will say that whole dance community that i have met are very nice and for that I feel encouraged. We shall see where it takes me.
Thanks everybody for the advice. -

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 3:23 PMEva is really fun and sweet...you will enjoy her. Do not be nervous. Talk to her about some of the folkloric teachings -- she will be fun for you I am sure! She is who I learned a lot of folkdances from myself....they are a blast! Khaliji is my favorite - that is more a womans folk dance....but there are soooo many to learn.....

Re: John Compton
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 9:23 PMJust finished my first class. Eva was fun. I look forward to learning from her.
I have always had a lot of respect for dancers, but after taking my first class, I feel and see much more. My respect has gone up exponentially. Huge props too all you dancers out there whose grace make this art look easy. I never knew so much muscle controll went into even the most simple of moves.
I just took my first steps on a very long road. -

Wed, May 7, 2008 - 8:49 AMAnd don't stress about bein' a guy with a bunch of girls... seriously, we seem to flock to the men in the community, all screaming in our heads, "OMGTESTOSTERONE!" and shower them with love and affection, hahaha. Glad you had fun in your first class, welcome to the addiction! -
